maybe/trips: how they work, and when we share your details

Updated 11 Oct 2026

A maybe/trip is a trip a host would like to run, if enough people want to go. You can say you're interested and tell the host what would make you book. Nothing is booked and nothing is paid. The host gets your name and email only if the trip goes ahead.

What is a maybe/trip?

A maybe/trip is a trip idea a host would like to run, if enough people want to go. Running a hosted trip means committing early: a venue, rooms, guides, sometimes a ship. Before a host does that, it helps to know whether anyone wants to come. So hosts can put an idea on maybe/trips for up to 90 days.

A maybe/trip usually has a rough place, a rough month and a price range. It isn't a trip you can book yet. It's a host asking, "Would you come to this?"

What do I share when I say I'm interested in a maybe/trip?

If a maybe/trip appeals to you, open it and say you're interested. You give:

Saying you're interested is not a booking and not a promise. You don't pay anything, and you're not committing to go.

When does the host get my details?

The host gets your name and email only if the trip goes ahead. This is the part people ask about most, so here it is plainly.

While the host is deciding: the host sees how many people are interested and what they wrote about what would make them book. They don't see your name or your email. Nobody else sees the number.

If the trip goes ahead: once the host lists it as a real trip and we approve it, two things happen:

  1. We email you once to say it's going ahead, with a link to the trip.
  2. The host gets your first name, your email and what you wrote, so they can tell you more.

If the trip doesn't go ahead: the host never gets your name or email, and you don't hear anything more about it. No news means it didn't happen.

What emails will I get after saying I'm interested?

Saying you're interested signs you up for one email only: the one telling you the trip is going ahead.

On the same form there's a separate, optional box: "Also email me when new trips are listed on hosted/trips." It's unchecked unless you check it. If you do, we email you a link to confirm first, and nothing comes until you click it.

You're in control of those emails. Every one has a link at the bottom to change what you get or stop them all, and you can do the same any time from Manage my emails.

Can I ask you to delete my details?

You can ask us to delete them at any time: email [email protected] from the address you used. We keep your first name, email and note so we can tell you if the trip goes ahead. Our privacy policy has the details.

What happens if a maybe/trip goes ahead?

Once a maybe/trip becomes a real trip, it's listed like any other trip on hosted/trips, with a named host and a booking status. You book directly with the host, on their own site. hosted/trips takes no bookings, no payments and no cut of what you pay the host.

Being interested early doesn't hold you a place or guarantee a price. Read the trip page when it arrives, check the dates and the host's terms, and decide then. You can still say no.

Why should I say I'm interested in a maybe/trip?

Hosts make better trips when they know what travelers want. If you've ever thought "I'd go to that, if only," a maybe/trip is where you can say so. A few honest words about timing, price or who the trip is for can change the trip that gets made.

Get an email when new trips are listed

We'll ask you to confirm first. One email per new trip, and you can stop any time.

What are you interested in?

Tick any. Leave them all blank to hear about every new trip.

How we use what you send: see our Privacy policy and Your privacy choices.

Common questions

Does saying I'm interested in a maybe/trip mean I have to book?

No. Saying you're interested is not a booking and not a promise. You don't pay anything, and you're not committing to go.

Can the host see my name and email right away?

No. While the host is deciding, they see how many people are interested and what people wrote about what would make them book, but not your name or your email. The host gets your first name, email and note only if the trip goes ahead.

What happens if a maybe/trip doesn't go ahead?

The host never gets your name or email, and you don't hear anything more about it. No news means it didn't happen.

Will I get other emails if I say I'm interested in a retreat or group trip idea?

Saying you're interested signs you up for one email only: the one telling you the trip is going ahead. There is a separate, optional box to also get emails when new trips are listed. It is unchecked unless you check it, and if you do, you confirm first by clicking a link.
